Pune, 7th November 2024: Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has directed that all establishments under the Industries, Energy, and Labour Department of the Maharashtra State Government provide adequate leave or at least a two-hour relaxation to officers, workers, and employees on polling day, 20th November 2024, to ensure all voters can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections.

In this regard, Dr. Diwase has informed that the Industries, Energy, and Labour Department has issued a circular. According to the circular, every person engaged in any profession, trade, industrial undertaking, or any other establishment in a polling area who is entitled to vote in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections shall be granted a holiday on polling day. This holiday will apply to all industrial groups, corporations, companies, institutions, and other establishments under the Industries, Energy, and Labour Department. No deduction shall be made from the pay of any such person for the leave granted to vote.

In exceptional circumstances, if it is not possible to provide a full day of leave to workers, officers, and employees in the polling area, a concession of at least two hours may be given instead, provided prior permission is obtained from the concerned Pune District Election Officer. However, establishments are mandated to ensure that voters receive at least a two-hour concession to vote; otherwise, action will be taken against the responsible parties.

The district administration has also clarified that if voters file complaints about being unable to vote due to not receiving an appropriate holiday or concession, appropriate action will be taken against the responsible establishments.
