Pune, 10th July 2025: In response to a statewide call by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra, allopathy doctors in Pune will observe a complete shutdown of medical services for 24 hours starting from 8:00 am on Friday, July 11. The strike is being held in protest against the Maharashtra Medical Council’s (MMC) decision to grant registration to homeopathic practitioners holding a Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP).

The IMA has strongly opposed the MMC’s move, terming it as “unjust” and a threat to the integrity of modern medical practice.

“This decision to allow BHMS CCMP practitioners to register with the MMC undermines the sanctity of the allopathic system and compromises patient safety. We urge all allopathy doctors to stand united and participate in the statewide agitation,” said Dr. Sunil Ingale, President, IMA Pune branch.

The IMA Pune branch has appealed to its members to strictly adhere to the 24-hour closure and to gather for a protest meeting at 4:00 pm on July 11 at Dr. Nitu Mandke IMA House, Tilak Road, Pune.

Emergency services are expected to remain operational during the strike to ensure that critical care is not disrupted.

The IMA’s statewide agitation aims to pressure the MMC to revoke its decision and uphold the standards of allopathic medical practice.
