Pune: Revenue Department Tightens E-Office Controls; Login IDs to Be Deactivated During Leave and Transfers
Pune, 10th July 2025: In a move aimed at strengthening accountability and preventing administrative misuse, the Maharashtra Land Records Department has decided to suspend e-office login access for officers who are either on leave or have been transferred. New credentials will be provided exclusively to in-charge officers during such periods, the department announced.
The decision follows a series of incidents where revenue department officials continued to access and operate the e-office portal despite being officially relieved of duty. These unauthorized actions led to confusion, administrative overlap, and, in some cases, irregular approvals that the in-charge officers later had to answer for.
New System of Login Management
Under the updated protocol:
– Officers on leave or transfer will have their login IDs deactivated immediately.
– In-charge or substitute officers will be issued fresh login credentials to carry out their duties.
– All access will now be linked to the officer’s registered mobile number and require OTP authentication for login.
– This change will be enforced across the revenue department, from talathi offices to district collectorates.
“This initiative is a key step in reinforcing digital discipline within the system and eliminating loopholes that enable misuse,” said Dr. Suhas Divase, Settlement Commissioner and Director of Land Records.
Usually, in cases of leave or transfer, responsibilities are handed over verbally or via informal procedures. However, some outgoing officers continued to function on the digital portal, bypassing their replacements and creating dual chains of command. The lack of a built-in technical safeguard had long made such activity possible.
By enforcing automatic deactivation and introducing mobile-linked authentication, the new system ensures that only the current responsible officer has digital access. This move is expected to streamline administrative operations, prevent policy violations, and restore trust in e-governance systems.
