Ambulance Sirens Creating Fear Among People, Stop Blaring Sirens Especially At Night: RTO

Pune, 8th May 2021: Even though there is no traffic on roads, ambulances continue to blare sirens which is making citizens feel uneasy due to a large number of positive COVID-19 cases. Therefore, do not use sirens at night and blare them only when is required, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued an order to ambulance drivers.

Ambulances are being used extensively to transport patients in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. A lockdown has been declared in the Pune district and regulations have been issued in this regard.

There have been complaints about the ambulances carrying patients by citizens. Even though there is no traffic on the roads, the drivers of the ambulances are honking and keeping the sirens on, especially at night. This is creating unreasonable fear in the minds of the citizens. Pune district has a large number of COVID-19 cases. This has caused fear among the citizens about the virus and is leading to depression. It is directly impacting the health of the young and old.

“In accordance with the complaint of the citizens, ambulance drivers have been instructed to avoid the unnecessary use of horns and sirens to reduce noise pollution. It is affecting the health of the citizens. Sirens should not be used in residential areas, especially at night. Action will be taken against the owner and driver of the ambulance under the Motor Vehicle Act if the rule is violated,” the order states.
