Andekar Gang War on Eve of Ganesh Visarjan in Pune: One Killed in Nana Peth

Nana Peth, 5th September 2025: A gang war erupted in Pune on the eve of Ganesh Visarjan, leaving one person dead in Nana Peth on Friday evening.
The victim, Govind Komkar, son of Ganesh Komkar (who is an accused in the murder of Vanraj Andekar), was shot dead in the parking lot of a building near Hamal Talim. Police said Govind was fired at four times with a pistol and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The killing is believed to be linked to the murder of former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar, who was shot and attacked with a koyta on September 1 last year in a rivalry over supremacy. In that case, 16 people were arrested, including Somnath Gaikwad, Aniruddha Dudhbhate, Vanraj Andekar’s sister Sanjeevani Komkar, Jayant Komkar, and Ganesh Komkar.
Investigations have revealed that members of the Andekar gang were plotting to avenge his murder. According to sources, Gaikwad and Dudhbhate were residing in the Ambegaon Pathar area of Dhankawadi, while the gang had been monitoring their close associates. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police and the crime branch had earlier taken action in the matter, arresting one person and registering a case against Krishna Andekar and others.
The latest killing has heightened tensions in the city, sparking panic as gang rivalry resurfaced during the Ganesh festival.
