Ankita wins battle of nerves to enter semis at 22nd edition of NECC Deccan ITF $40000 Women’s Tennis Tournament

Pune, January 26, 2023: India No1 Ankita Raina held her nerves and saved three match points against India No 2 Karman Kaur Thandi to enter the singles semifinals of the 22nd edition of the NECC Deccan ITF $40000 Women’s Tennis Tournament India’s longest-running international tennis tournament organised under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA by Deccan Gymkhana and sponsored by National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts.

In a thrilling three setter lasting over 3 Hours and 30 minutes Ankita saved 2 match points in the second set to make a solid comeback to get past Karman Kaur Thandi 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4) in match watched by capacity crowd

In the semifinals. Ankita will take on top seeded and world No 71 Tatjana Maria of Germany who outplayed sixth seeded Irina Khromacheva of Russia 6-2, 6-3

In the other semifinal seventh seeded Valeria Savinykh who upset winner of last week and fourth seeded Anastasia Tikhonova 6-4, 6-1 in an All Russian battle will take on second seeded Uzbek Nigina Abduraimova who ended the run of Japanese qualifier Eri Shimizu 6-2, 6-1
