Apple Prices Rise in Pune as Arrivals Drop and Demand Surges
Market Yard, 10th February 2026: Apple prices in Pune’s Gultekdi Market Yard have surged due to lower arrivals and rising demand. Last week, the market received around 8,000 to 10,000 crates of apples, but current arrivals have dropped to nearly 4,000 to 4,500 crates, insufficient to meet market demand.
Satyajit Suyog Zende, an apple trader from Gurudev Dutt Agency at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, said that Iranian apple prices have climbed due to increased demand. Demand for apples from Afghanistan has also risen, contributing to higher rates.
Currently, Iranian apples are selling at ₹1,350 to ₹1,500 per 10 kg, while Afghan apples are priced between ₹900 and ₹1,000 per 10 kg. Meanwhile, import duty on apples from New Zealand has been reduced from 50% to 25%, with New Zealand apples expected to arrive in the local market next month.
Apples from Kashmir, stored in controlled-atmosphere facilities, are scheduled to be released after February 1. With the holy month of Ramadan beginning in the second week of February, demand for fruits is expected to increase further.
Traders predict that apple prices may ease once fresh supplies from Kashmir and New Zealand reach the market in the coming weeks.
