Pune – A team of media personnel visited Army Institute of Technology on 08 Feb 2017..The team was introduced to key personnel followed by an interactive briefing by the Director Brig (Dr.) SK Lahiri (Retired).  After the briefing, the recent achievements by the students of AIT were showcased to the Media Team at the Central Foyer by the concerned student secretaries.  The team thereafter visited the Academic Block during which the students and Faculty-in-Charges explained the activities of 3DPLM Lab, Open Source Software Club, Language lab, functioning of various equipments and software in the Departmental laboratories of Computer, IT, Mechanical and Electronics & Telecommunication Departments.  The Solar Energy Project was also visited by the team, followed by the Library and PG Centre named Aryabhatta Centre, the recreation halls of Girls and Boys Hostels and the well laid-out sports grounds.The team had meaningful interaction with Col Pranab Sarkar, Commanding Officer, of one of the units in Southern Command, who belongs to the second batch of Army Institute of Technology.The team also exchanged ideas with the Heads of Departments and selected student achievers over lunch.
Army Institute of Technology was founded in August 1994 as a result of the vision and untiring efforts of Gen BC Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, ADC. The beautiful campus, serene ambience and architectural splendour, state-of-art infrastructure all provide vital ingredients for a delectable academic environment for development of total quality engineers. Today, AIT is ranked amongst the Best Engineering Colleges of West Zone.   AIT is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and is recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).The Institute is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade in August 2016.  All the undergraduate courses run by AIT are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). 
The institute is certified ISO 9001-2008 for quality management and administration. AIT has been adjudged the Best Professional College for the Academic Year 2016-17 by SPPU, on 26 January 2017. 
AIT is a unique welfare project of the Indian Army where only the wards of Army Personnel are eligible for admission to this Institute through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (approved by a special Supreme Court order). It is a non-aided and non-profit making college functioning under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). AIT is located approximately 13 kms from Pune Railway Station near Dighi Hills on Alandi Road. It is a residential and self-contained campus in a superb, pollution free environment. A number of indoor and outdoor sports facilities exist within the Campus.
AIT offers four year B.E. course in the following Disciplines: –
(a) Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering    – 60 seats
(b) Mechanical Engineering                                        – 60 seats
(c) Computer Engineering                                          – 120 seats
(d) Information Technology                                        – 60 seats
AIT has commenced PG course in Mechanical Engineering (Machine Design) from AY 2015-16.   PG in other branches are planned shortly.
