Pune – The Army Law College, Pune, a residential institute offering five years integrated BBA LLB course was inaugurated by Lieutenant General DR Soni, PVSM, VSM, ADC, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command on 16 Jul 2018. The Army Law College is the second professional college to be established in Pune, by the Indian Army, under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society, after the Army Institute of Technology. The Law College is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University and 60 children of serving and retired Army personnel have been granted admission for current Academic Year 2018 -19, based on their score in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for Law.

The College has been established on a property gifted by Radha Kaliandas Daryanani Charitable Trust and consists of 12 buildings near village Kanhe, on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. Dr Madhushree Joshi will be the first Principal of the College, who is herself a gold medallist from Pune University.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by students of the first batch with their parents, retired Honorable Bombay High Court Justice Mr DG Karnik, Dr Prem Daryanani, Trustee of Radha Kaliandas Daryanani Charitable Trust, senior Army Officers, Veterans, College Faculty, locals and Government Officials of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prem Daryanani highlighted the thought behind the donation and exhorted the corporates as well as the common citizens to share the responsibility towards the Army personnel who risk their lives to safeguard the borders in challenging conditions. Retired Honorable Justice Mr DG Karnik recounted long years of his judicial experience to highlight the challenges of the legal profession and how students need to prepare for it. Lieutenant General DR Soni, PVSM, VSM, ADC, the Army Commander, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Radha Kaliandas Daryanani Charitable Trust for the invaluable gift given by them to start the College. He also thanked the Government of Maharashtra and Savitribai Phule Pune University for all the support rendered for establishment of the college, in a record time of less than a year. He urged the students to work hard and focus on all round development and be prepared to face the challenges waiting for them. The inaugural event was concluded by a vote of thanks by Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM, Patron of the Army Law College and Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Command, who thanked individually all members who have worked tirelessly in ensuring that the college starts functioning in this academic year itself.
