Arrest of absconder involved in FICN smuggling case

On 26/01/2013, Abdul Salam @ Podi Salam, a resident of Malappuram District, Kerala and charge-sheeted absconding accused in RC- 01/2014/NIA/KOC (Nedumbasserry FICN Case-2014) was arrested by NIA on his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi following his deportation from Saudi Arabia.

The case originally registered as FIR No. 122/ 2013 on 27.01.2013 at Nedumbasserry Police Station, Ernakulam Rural District, Kerala u/s 489A, 489B, 489C and 34 IPC relates to the criminal conspiracy to smuggle Rs. 9,75,000/- worth of Fake Indian Currency Notes, which were seized from Abid Chullikulavan Hassan (A-1) by Customs wing (Rummage & Intelligence Unit), Kochi at Nedumbasserry International Airport on 26.01.2013.

3. The NIA had taken over investigation of this case after re-registering it as RC-01/2014/NIA/KOC on 13/07/2014. Charge sheet was filed by the NIA against five accused persons including Abdul Salam on 23.07.2015 u/s 489 (A), 489 (B) and 489 (C), r/w 34 of IPC besides sections 16 and 18 of UA (P) Act. Abdul Salam (A-3) was part of the criminal conspiracy to smuggle high quality counterfeit Indian currency notes to India from UAE and had facilitated smuggling of the contraband through Abid Chullikulavan Hassan (A-1). 4. The case is pending trial before the NIA Special Court at Ernakulum, Kerala.
