Pune, 24th November 2023: Ather has officially announced the introduction of a new family electric scooter in the Indian market at the beginning of the upcoming year. This addition to their electric vehicle lineup is set to rival competitors such as the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. A recently surfaced spy image of the upcoming Ather family scooter, shrouded in camouflage, reveals a design reminiscent of the TVS iQube, portraying it as a family-oriented scooter with a boxy design, a substantial pillion grip handle, and a spacious floorboard.

Examining the spy image further, the design language aligns with other Ather electric scooters, featuring a familiar wheel design seen in the 450X but introducing a foldable pillion footrest for added comfort. The electric scooter retains the rear-view camera seen in the 450X, though adjustments are expected to maintain an affordable price point. Anticipated to share a range similar to the Ather 450X, which claims around 115 km with a 2.9 kWh battery, the company is likely to release a low-range, cost-effective model before introducing the top-tier version.

Expected features include an LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, regenerative braking, OTA updates, call and SMS alerts, digital speedometer, stand alarm, trip meter, and battery-low warnings. The Ather family scooter will operate with a full LED lighting setup, boasting features like parking assist, electric start assist, and a spacious storage of 22 to 25 liters under the seat. Priced around Rs 1.3 lakh ex-showroom, it will qualify for the Fame 2 subsidy, offering an attractive option for cost-conscious and premium-seeking customers.

Currently, the anticipated launch of the Ather family scooter is slated for the end of 2024, as confirmed by Ather Electric CEO Tarun Mehta on Twitter. Positioned to compete with electric scooters like TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak, it aims to make a significant impact in the Indian electric vehicle market.
