Avoid Mandai Station This Ganeshotsav: Pune Metro Issues Special Advisory for Commuters
Pune, 27th August 2025: With lakhs of devotees expected to visit the city’s prominent Ganesh mandals during Ganeshotsav, Pune Metro has issued a special appeal to passengers to help manage crowding and ensure smooth travel.
Currently, Pune Metro carries around 2.15 lakh passengers daily. Authorities estimate this number could cross 5 lakh during the festival period, particularly in the inner city areas. The Swargate, Mandai, and Kasba Peth stations are expected to witness heavy rush as they are located close to major Ganesh mandals.
Guidelines for Devotees
To reduce congestion, Pune Metro has urged devotees to use alternative stations instead of directly crowding at Mandai station. The advisory suggests:
Passengers travelling from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate (Line 1) should alight at Kasba Peth station and proceed on foot to nearby Ganesh mandals.
Devotees using the Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor are advised to get down at PMC, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, or Deccan Gymkhana stations and walk to the mandals for darshan.
Avoid alighting at Mandai Metro station, located in the city centre, as it is expected to be overcrowded.
Additional Appeals
Metro officials have also requested commuters to:
Use digital tickets, WhatsApp tickets, or the One Pune Card instead of queuing at counters.
Give priority to elderly, women, and persons in need for using lifts. Others should use escalators or stairs.
Maintain discipline by forming queues while entering and exiting stations.
Avoid unnecessary crowding in and around station premises.
“By following these guidelines, passengers can enjoy a safe, convenient, and comfortable journey during Ganeshotsav. We request everyone to cooperate with Pune Metro staff, police, and civic authorities,” the advisory stated.
