Baner Police Recover Rs 20 Lakh Lost in Cyber Fraud
Baner, 25th August 2026: The cyber investigation team of Baner Police Station has successfully recovered ₹20 lakh lost in a financial cyber fraud case and returned the amount to the complainant following a court order.
A complaint regarding financial fraud was registered at Baner Police Station on April 16, 2026, under Crime No. 109/2026. Following the complaint, the cyber investigation team immediately began examining the financial transactions linked to the fraud.
The police contacted the concerned banks and merchants and pursued the matter through official correspondence and continuous follow-up over the phone. The team submitted the necessary documents and evidence to facilitate the recovery of the defrauded amount.
Following the sustained efforts of the cyber team, ₹20 lakh was recovered and subsequently returned to the complainant as per the court’s order.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police, Eastern Regional Division, Pune City, Manoj Patil; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Chilmula Rajnikant; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Khadki Division, Brahmadev Gawade.
The team worked under the instructions of Baner Police Station Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant and Police Inspector (Crime) Vijay Khillare. Assistant Police Inspector Nandkumar Kadam, police personnel Shinde, Yogita Misal, Datta Kale, Khude and other officers and personnel from the Baner Police cyber investigation team were involved in the operation.
Police Issue Cyber Safety Advisory
Baner Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant against online fraud. People should verify the authenticity of messages or links claiming to be related to mobile updates, KYC, bank account updates or other services before clicking on them.
Citizens should never share OTPs, PINs, CVVs, UPI PINs, bank account details or other personal information with anyone. They should also avoid clicking on links received from unknown persons.
Police have further warned citizens against individuals, mobile numbers, social media groups, fake applications and websites promising high or guaranteed returns within a short period through stock market investments.
In case of cyber fraud, citizens should immediately call the 1930 cybercrime helpline and register a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in. Complaints can also be filed at the nearest police station.
Police have emphasised that prompt reporting can help authorities place the defrauded funds on hold or freeze the transaction and initiate the process of recovering the money.
