Baner: Pune Municipal Corporation Demolishes Unauthorized Furniture Showrooms

Pune, 30th November 2023: The building permission department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken action against unauthorized showrooms and furniture shops in Pashan along the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. Approximately 1 lakh square feet of construction was demolished during this operation.
Direct action was taken against shops stocked with goods worth lakhs of rupees, resulting in significant losses for the businesses. Meanwhile, the municipal administration clarified that this action was necessary as the encroachments persisted despite multiple notices being issued.
The targeted construction falls within the restricted area of the DRDO’s High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL). The presence of the furniture mall had led to a traffic jam on the highway, prompting complaints from HEMRL. PMC officials stated that action against the remaining shops will be taken next week.
During the operation, a cutter machine, two JCBs, a gas cutter, 15 breakers, and police personnel were deployed. Members of the Hinjawadi Police Station, Pimpri Chinchwad Police, were also present.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Superintending Engineer Yuvraj Deshmukh, Executive Engineer Bipin Shinde, Deputy Engineer Sunil Kadam, Branch Engineer Rahul Rasale, and Sameer Gadai.
