Banga Bharati Sharodiya Durgotsav 2026: Bringing the Heritage of Bengal to Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune, 27th August 2026: The colours, traditions, music, art, food and festive spirit of Bengal will take centre stage in Pimpri this October as Banga Bharati celebrates the 41st year of its Sharodiya Durgotsav with the theme “The Heritage of Bengal.”

The six-day celebration, scheduled from October 16 to 21, 2026, will be held at Rangaswamy Perumal Pillai Sanskritik Bhavan, Masulkar Colony, Ajmera Road, Pimpri, Pune. The organisers expect the festival to draw more than 10,000 visitors every day, making it a significant cultural gathering for the Bengali community as well as people from across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

A legacy spanning five decades
Established in 1974, Banga Bharati is among the oldest Bengali cultural organisations in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Over the years, its Durga Puja and Kali Puja celebrations have grown into major community gatherings, attracting devotees, families, professionals and visitors from diverse backgrounds.
The organisation is celebrating the 41st year of its Durga Puja and the 53rd year of its Kali Puja in 2026, combining religious traditions with cultural programmes and community participation.

“Our aim has always been to preserve our cultural heritage while bringing communities together. This year, through the theme ‘The Heritage of Bengal’, we want visitors to experience Bengal not just through Durga Puja, but through its art, architecture, music, food, traditions and stories,” said Sadeep Chakraborty, General Secretary, Banga Bharati Sharodiya Durgotsav 2026.

Bengal’s heritage comes alive
The 2026 theme is designed to give visitors an immersive experience of Bengal. The Puja décor will draw from the region’s rich artistic and architectural traditions, while cultural performances will showcase its music and performing arts.

The festival will also feature local talent alongside renowned artists from Kolkata, including singers, dancers and musicians.

The organisers say the celebration will also highlight the cultural diversity of Maharashtra, creating a space where the traditions of West Bengal can be experienced and appreciated by people from different communities.

“Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have welcomed people from different parts of India, and our celebration is also a reflection of that diversity. We want to share the flavours and traditions of West Bengal while celebrating the cultural richness of Maharashtra,” Chakraborty said.

Food, music and the spirit of community
For many visitors, Bengali cuisine is an important part of the Durga Puja experience. The festival will feature authentic Bengali food and sweets, alongside popular festive favourites.

Another major attraction will be the distribution of free Bhog Prasad to more than 3,000 devotees daily on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami.
The Bhog tradition adds a strong community dimension to the celebrations, bringing devotees and visitors together over food while maintaining the devotional character of the festival.

At the centre of the celebrations will be the worship of Maa Durga, with the Puja conducted in a deeply devotional and traditional manner.

A cultural bridge between Bengal and Maharashtra
Banga Bharati’s annual Durga Puja has evolved beyond a community celebration, becoming an opportunity for people across Pune to engage with Bengali culture.

The organisers expect more than 10,000 daily footfalls, with visitors representing different communities and cultural backgrounds. The festival’s combination of religious rituals, cultural performances, food and community programmes is expected to make it a major attraction during the festive season.

The 2026 edition, therefore, is not only about celebrating Durga Puja but also about preserving a cultural legacy while presenting it to a wider audience.

As Bengal’s traditions find a home in Pimpri-Chinchwad once again, “The Heritage of Bengal” seeks to connect generations of the Bengali community with their roots while inviting Punekars to discover the many layers of Bengal’s cultural identity.
