Bank of Maharashtra Celebrates ‘Bank Nationalization Day’ By Distributing Plant Saplings
Pune, 19th July, 2021: Bank of Maharashtra (BoM), a premiere public sector bank in the country celebrated Bank Nationalisation Day on 19th July, 2021 by distributing plant saplings among farmers in a program organised at Varoti (Bk) Village of Velhe Tehsil in Pune district. Mr. Hemant Tamta, Executive Director of Bank of Maharashtra distributed 501 Jackfruit saplings & Covid Protection Kit to 100 farmers from Varoti (kh), Varoti (Bk) and Kolambi villages. Mr. Vijay Kamble, General Manager Planning, Marketing & Publicity elaborated the importance of jackfruit plantation especially in Velhe tehsil. Mr. Mahendra Kumar Kabra, General Manager, Credit Priority; Mr. Vivek Dhawan, Zonal Manager Pune East Zone; Mr. Raghunath Jankar Sarpanch; Mr. Vilas Anna Pawar, Deputy Sarpanch & Mr, Nitin Dhuke, Gramsevak of Varoti (kh), Varoti (Bk) and Kolambi villages were also present in the event.
While interacting with the Farmers Mr. Hemant Tamta opined that Jackfruit plantation shall provide sustainable farming & income generation over the period of time. The majority populace of selected villages is tribal, economically backward and rely upon selling of vegetables and bamboo to earn their living.
Velhe Tehsil is being considered as one of the remote tehsils of Pune district and its geographical and climatic conditions are not so favourable for traditional farming. The efforts taken by Bank of Maharashtra has generated awareness among villagers who are motivated for such plantations in future as well. This will make them self-reliant with sustainable conservation of environment. The event was coordinated by Bank’s Mahabank Agricultural Research & Rural Development Foundation (MARDEF) Trust.
