Barkha Ritu – A festival conceived and produced by Banyan Tree is dedicated solely to monsoon Ragas, and it’s that time of the year to listen to the rhythm of the rain.In each city Banyan Tree has planned to feature an interesting combination of maestros creating a perfect blend of traditional monsoon raagas for the benefit of music lovers of all age groups.

Barkha Ritu (Pune) will feature the renowned vocalist Shounak Abhisheki(Vocal) and living legend Padma Vibhushan Pt. Shivkumar Sharma(Santoor)

The Monsoons have always been a favorite subject of interpretation for the creative minds.  Barkha Ritu each year brings to the city some of the greatest maestros to present their Musical interpretation of the monsoons. The heart-warming renditions by almost all the stalwarts of Indian Classical music at Barkha Ritu have been making monsoons memorable over the past 18 years.

This year Barkha Ritu will begin its journey in Bangalore will travel to Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and will conclude in Chennai.

Shounak Abhisheki: the gifted son and disciple of the Maestro Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki is recognized as the leading vocalists of the younger generation. Shounak has a rich experience of distinct styles which has moulded him to acquire flexibility, which is not very common. Apart from his skilful mastery over the technicalities of music, Shounak’s aesthetic approach towards the lyrical content and his keen sensitivity towards the emotive aspects of a composition, gives his performance universal appeal.

Pt. Shivkumar Sharma: Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, of the famed Shiv-Hari composer Duo (Silsila, Chandani, Lamhe) is one of the most acclaimed maestros of our times and has contributed to this rich tradition not just by making an obscure, almost unknown instrument (Santoor), an indispensable part of this heritage but also by creating new listeners across the globe. Pandit ji has won the Platinum Disc award his world renowned albums like ‘Call of the Valley’. For this Barkha Ritu, keeping in mind the monsoons, Pandit ji has composed a music piece especially keeping in mind the young.
