Pune/Bengaluru, 28th March 2025: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 36-year-old software professional allegedly stabbed his wife to death, dismembered her body, and stuffed the remains in a suitcase before attempting to flee. The accused, Rakesh Rajendra Khedkar, was arrested by the Hulimavu police in Bengaluru after being traced to Pune. The victim has been identified as Gauri Sambekar (32), a journalism graduate.
According to police reports, Rakesh and Gauri had been married for two years but frequently argued, leading to a troubled relationship. The couple moved to Bengaluru from Maharashtra a year ago for work, but their conflicts escalated in recent months.
On March 27, during a heated argument at their residence, Rakesh stabbed Gauri to death with a knife, then cut her body into pieces and stuffed it in a suitcase. After committing the crime, he reportedly called his in-laws in Maharashtra and confessed to the murder before fleeing Bengaluru in his private vehicle.
Gauri’s family immediately alerted the Karnataka police, who launched an investigation. Later, her body was discovered in a suitcase near Doddanekundi Apartment in Bengaluru.
While on the run, Rakesh attempted suicide by consuming insecticide and phenyl. He was found unconscious near Shirwal, a town on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The Pune police admitted him to Sassoon Hospital, where he is now under medical observation.
Dr. Eknath Pawar, Dean of Sassoon Hospital, confirmed: “He had consumed phenyl and insecticide just before being caught by the police. He is currently under medical supervision.”
