Bharat Gayan Samaj celebrates its 105th anniversary
Pune, 1st October 2016: Founded by Devgandharva Pt. Bhaskrabuwa Bakhale ‘Bharat Gayan Samaj’ has been relentlessly enriching people with the richness of Indian Music since 1911. On the occasion of its 105thanniversary, this city based institute awarded few budding artists for their exceptional work in the field of music.
The award ceremony was held at Bharat Gayan Samaj today morning. Renowned vocalist and President of the Institute Mrs. Shaila Datar bestowed these awards to the artists. Suhas Datar Vice President of the institute and noted poet Sangeeta Barve were also present on this occasion.
Mugdha Vaishampayan a final contestant from famous ‘SaReGaMaPa’ little champ competition who is now a young and upcoming artist and a disciple of Nishad Bakare was awarded with ‘Late Manik Varma Smruti Purskar’. Atul Khandekar, a looming vocalist of ‘Gwalior’ Gharana who received this cultural heritage from his mother Manasi Khandekar and late Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe was awarded with ‘Natsamrat Balgandharv Puraskar’. While Anuradha Kuber, an emerging vocalist of ‘Bhendi Bazaar’ Gharana. who was trained by senior vocalist Pt. Janorikabuwa was awarded with ‘Late Malati Pande–Barve Smruti Puraskar’ on this occasion. The awards comprised of a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- to each artist.
In addition, noted Harmonium player Chaitanya Kunte was awarded with senior vocalist ‘Late Shankarbua Ashtekar Smruti Puraskar’, Tabla Player Sameer Puntambekar was awarded with ‘Late Bapurao Ashtekar Smruti Puraskar’ and Gandhar Jog was awarded with ‘Late Appasaheb Bhope Smruti Puraskar’. These awards comprised of a cash prize of Rs.3000/- each.
