Bhogi Festival Boosts Vegetable Arrivals, Prices Rise at Pune Market Yard

Pune, 12th January 2026: Ahead of the Bhogi festival, the wholesale vegetable market at Pune’s Gultekdi Market Yard witnessed a surge in arrivals on Sunday, resulting in heightened trading activity. Demand rose sharply for chickpea bunches (harbhara gaddi), pavta, ghevda, brinjal, carrots and ber. Owing to the increased demand, prices of green chilli, cabbage, cauliflower and cucumber rose by 10 to 20 per cent in the wholesale market.

Around 125 truckloads of vegetables arrived at the market from various parts of Maharashtra and other states. Green chillies were supplied in 15 to 16 tempos from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Carrots arrived in 18 to 20 tempos from Rajasthan, while cabbage was brought in 4 to 5 tempos from Karnataka. Drumsticks reached the market in 2 to 3 tempos from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and Totapuri raw mangoes arrived in two tempos from Tamil Nadu.

Other major arrivals included 3 to 4 tempos of French beans (ghevda) from Karnataka, 4 to 5 tempos of pavta from Karnataka, 35 tempos of peas from Madhya Pradesh and 7 to 8 tempos of garlic from Madhya Pradesh. Groundnut pods were supplied in two tempos from Karnataka and Gujarat, said Vilas Bhujbal, a senior commission agent at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Market Yard.

From the Pune region, arrivals included 400 gunny bags of satari, 5 to 6 tempos of okra, 3 to 4 tempos of guar, 7,000 to 8,000 crates of tomatoes, 4 to 5 tempos of green chilli, 7 to 8 tempos of cucumber, 10 to 12 tempos of cauliflower, 5 to 6 tempos of cabbage, 10 to 12 tempos of capsicum, 10 to 12 tempos of red pumpkin and around 150 tempos of onions, including both new and old stock. Potatoes arrived in 30 to 35 tempos from Indore, Agra and nearby areas.

In the leafy vegetable section, arrivals of chickpea bunches were particularly high. With demand increasing ahead of the festival, prices of chickpea bunches rose by Rs 4 to 5. About 25,000 bundles of chickpea bunches arrived from the Pune region. The market also recorded arrivals of around one lakh bundles of coriander and 70,000 bundles of fenugreek.

Wholesale prices of leafy vegetables per 100 bundles were reported as follows: coriander Rs 1,000–1,500, fenugreek Rs 500–800, dill leaves Rs 500–800, spring onion Rs 500–1,000, chakwat Rs 400–800, safflower leaves Rs 300–700, mint Rs 300–600, ambadi Rs 400–800, radish leaves Rs 1,000–1,500, rajgira Rs 500–800, sorrel Rs 500–1,000, chaulai Rs 300–800, spinach Rs 1,000–1,500 and chickpea bunches Rs 800–1,500.
The increase in arrivals and prices reflects heightened festive demand in the run-up to Bhogi.
