Pune, 8th July 2021: A BJP MLA from Jalgaon, Chandulal Patel, has been booked by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune City Police in the Rs 1200 crore scam related to Bhaichand Hirachand Raisoni (BHR) Multistate Cooperative Credit Society.

In the last one month, the EOW has arrested 13 people including the main accused Jitendra Kandare. Apart from Maharashtra, raids were also carried out in Madhya Pradesh in this case. Meanwhile, many have got a refund as accused persons want to avoid being arrested in the case.

Bhagyashree Navtake, Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW) said that an arrest warrant had been issued against Chandulal Patel last month. The warrant was issued after the raid. But, he had absconded.

BHR multi-credit society has 264 branches in seven states across the country and has deposits of Rs 1,200 crore of 28,000 depositors. The scam came to light in 2015 as the deposits were not being repaid even after the deadline.

A case was registered against thirteen directors of the society. The government had appointed Kandare as a liquidator to return the depositors’ deposits. He was expected to sell the assets of BHR society at auction and return the depositors’ money from the proceeds. However, he cheated the depositors.

Police have arrested Bhagwat Bhangale and Sanjay Totla from Jalgaon, Jayshree Maniar from Jamner, Rajesh Lodha, Chhagan Zalte and Asif Teli from Bhusawal.
