Lonavala, 16th June 2025: The monsoon has gained momentum in Lonavala with 143 mm (5.63 inches) of rainfall recorded between Sunday night and Monday morning. The continuous showers have caused the Bhushi Dam, a popular tourist attraction, to overflow, with water cascading down its steps — a sight that typically draws large crowds during the rainy season.

So far this year, Lonavala has received 791 mm (31.14 inches) of rainfall. Compared to last year, the rains arrived earlier but were interrupted by a brief dry spell. However, for the past two to three days, showers have resumed late at night and continued into the mornings.

The Pune district administration has issued a prohibitory order, banning entry into water bodies including dams and waterfalls in the region. The order has been enforced as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and drowning incidents, which tend to increase during the monsoon season.

Citizens and tourists have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into such areas and to follow local administration directives to ensure their safety.
