Big Blow for India: Yashasvi Jaiswal Ruled Out of Champions Trophy 2025 Due to Injury

Mumbai, 16th February 2025: Ahead of the highly anticipated Champions Trophy 2025, Team India has suffered a major setback as star batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has been ruled out due to injury.
India, set to begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, has already arrived at the venue for final preparations. However, Jaiswal’s unexpected injury has forced the team to make last-minute changes to the squad.
Jaiswal, who has been a key performer in Test matches, ODIs, and previous Champions Trophy tournaments, suffered a right ankle injury during training over the weekend. As a result, he has been excluded from the final 15-member squad, with Varun Chakravarthy named as his replacement.
Jaiswal has an impressive record, scoring 1,526 runs in 33 international games at an average of 52.62. However, his ODI performance has not matched his Test and T20 success. Additionally, selectors considered the solid form of India’s opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, as a key reason for his exclusion.
Cricket commentator Aakash Chopra analyzed the team’s batting order, highlighting the depth and strength of the squad:
“The batting order looks settled. Rohit has started scoring runs, and Shubman Gill, our vice-captain, is in good form. Virat Kohli will return to form, and even if he doesn’t—God forbid—India won’t drop him. Shreyas Iyer is set at No. 4, while KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, or Axar Patel will take the No. 5 slot. One of Rahul or Pant will have to sit out, and we have an extra battery of players.”
In another blow to the team, Jasprit Bumrah has also been ruled out due to injury and is currently recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. He has been replaced by Harshit Rana in the final squad.
With the Champions Trophy set to begin on February 19, Indian cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the tournament, hoping the team can overcome these setbacks and perform strongly on the global stage.
