Pune, 30th December 2024: A shocking incident has come to light in Bibwewadi, where a biker allegedly abandoned his critically injured friend following a road accident, resulting in the friend’s death due to lack of timely medical care.

The police discovered the body of Krishna Sasane (24) on an open plot near Bibwewadi police station on Wednesday. Investigations revealed that Sasane had been left there by the biker after an accident on December 25.

According to Sub-Inspector Ashok Yevale of the Bibwewadi police station, the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Bibwewadi-Katraj Road. Sasane and the accused biker, both reportedly under the influence of alcohol, were riding in the wrong direction when their motorcycle collided head-on with a car heading towards Satara Road.

“Following the collision, the biker argued with the car driver, who offered to take them to Sassoon General Hospital,” Yevale said. “Sasane sustained severe head injuries, but instead of ensuring he received medical care, the biker made a shocking decision.”

At the hospital, the biker, who works as a contract employee with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), changed his mind and decided against seeking treatment for Sasane. “We believe he feared losing his job and facing legal action for drunk driving and riding on the wrong side of the road,” Yevale explained. “He persuaded the car driver to take them back to Bibwewadi instead.”

Once they returned, the biker allegedly abandoned the unconscious Sasane on an open plot near the police station. “He left Sasane there, severely injured, and went home,” Yevale stated.

The next morning, CCTV footage captured the biker visiting the plot to check on Sasane. “He seemed to realize that Sasane was motionless and unresponsive. Instead of alerting anyone, he left,” Yevale added. Later, passersby informed the police, who rushed Sasane to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Bibwewadi police have now registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the biker. “We have detained the biker and initiated legal action. This tragic incident underscores the consequences of recklessness and a lack of responsibility,” Yevale said.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
