Bison’s Death: Bombay High Court Issues Notice To Pune Police Commissioner And Forest Department

Pune, 22nd December 2021: The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to Pune Police Commissioner and Forest Department in connection with the death of a bison in Kothrud last year.
Lawyer Asim Sarode on behalf of Lawyers for Earth Justice had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court in December 2020.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice MS Karnik have issued a notice in this matter. The court has ordered the respondents to file their replies by January 17, 2022.
On December 9, 2020, a bison entered the Kothrud area leading to turmoil for more than seven hours. Many people were seen clicking photos and shooting videos on their phones. The terrified bison sustained injuries after getting hit by a steel gate and a dog attack. The Forest department caught the bison but he died during treatment. The autopsy report revealed that the bison had died of a heart attack.
