Bison’s Death: Bombay High Court Issues Notice To Pune Police Commissioner And Forest Department

Pune, 22nd December 2021: The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to Pune Police Commissioner and Forest Department in connection with the death of a bison in Kothrud last year.

Lawyer Asim Sarode on behalf of Lawyers for Earth Justice had filed a ​Public ​Interest ​Litigation ​(PIL) ​in the High Court in December 2020​.

A​ bench​ of​ Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice MS Karnik​ have​​ issued a notice in this ​matter. The court has ordered the respondents to file their replies by January 17, 2022.

On December 9, 2020, a bison entered the Kothrud area leading to turmoil for more than seven hours.​ Many people were seen clicking photos and shooting videos on their phones. The terrified​ bison sustained injuries after getting hit by a steel gate and a dog attack​. ​The Forest department caught the bison but he died during treatment.​ The autopsy report revealed that the bison had died of a heart attack.
