Sindhudurg, 2nd February 2022: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and Union Minister Narayan Rane’s son, Nitesh Rane surrendered before a court in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on Wednesday in an alleged attempt to murder case. Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said, “He surrendered and is sent to judicial custody and now we are seeking police custody from the court.”

Earlier, Nitesh had withdrawn his bail application from the Bombay High Court. His lawyer said that he wanted to cooperate in the investigation by surrendering.

On Tuesday, Sindhudurg District and Additional Sessions Judge RB Rote rejected his bail plea, saying the petition was “premature and not maintainable”.

The court had said that the custodial interrogation of Nitesh Rane was necessary as the investigation in the attempt to murder case remained incomplete. The case is about the alleged attack on Shiv Sena worker Santosh Parab during the campaign for Sindhudurg District Co-operative Bank elections.

Nitesh claimed that he was being targeted by the ruling Shiv Sena due to an incident on December 23, during the winter session of the Assembly. He had ‘meowed’ to mock Shiv Sena leader and minister Aaditya Thackeray.
