BJP Pune President Joins Bramha SunCity Residents’ Protest Against Stray Dog Menace
Pune, 29th April 2023: Residents of Bramha SunCity in Vadgaonsheri are struggling with the menace of stray dogs, which is causing a lot of trouble for them. There have been several complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) about aggressive dogs and dog bites, but nothing has been done. The residents are feeling helpless after a recent Bombay High Court order forced the society to take back the dogs that were once removed after an attack on a child in February.
Today the the residents decided to peacefully protest with a silent march. The BJP Pune President, Jagdish Mulik, participated in this protest and addressed the citizens. He mentioned that with an influx of 60 dogs, the security of residents will be at stake, and he will join hands with residents in explaining the issue to various government officials.
According to the residents, they have been facing a lot of problems due to stray dogs. Inaccessible parking during medical emergencies, medical patients/senior citizens unable to walk safely, kids unable to play fearlessly, and society staff unable to work freely are some of the problems. Moreover, society is struggling with an influx of 60 dogs that were once removed.
A PIL was filed by an animal activist in the Bombay High Court to release these dogs, and SPCA was instructed to form an animal welfare committee to resolve human-animal conflicts. The committee visited the society, surveyed its perimeters, spoke to the residents, and met the dog feeders. They observed that the residents are frustrated and scared with no accountability for these dog bites or dog killings due to bites.
The residents have several unanswered questions regarding the safety of society. They are questioning the PMC’s Animal Birth Control (ABC2023) guidelines that are made for animal welfare but don’t consider human welfare. They have also complained about dog bites and chase while walking, dropping kids at the bus stop, or playing.
