Kothrud, 22nd February 2025: A shocking incident unfolded in Pune’s Kothrud area on Wednesday evening when a young techie and BJP worker, Devendra Jog, was brutally assaulted while riding his two-wheeler. Jog was reportedly attempting to navigate past a procession organized for Shiv Jayanti when he was attacked. A case has been registered against the accused, and three individuals from Gajanan Marne gang members have been taken into custody.

Jog, identified as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, is a well-known figure in Kothrud’s political circles. Reacting to the incident, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol strongly condemned the attack. “Jog has been an active BJP worker in Kothrud for many years. Such incidents should not happen in any part of Pune. The police must take strict action,” he stated.

The incident has also raised concerns about law and order in Pune. Recently, Pune police conducted a parade of known criminals in the city. However, videos of these individuals have surfaced on social media, allegedly glorifying them, leading to a rise in extortion-related cases. Addressing the issue, Mohol remarked, “Pune has a unique cultural identity, and its reputation must not be tarnished.”

He further urged the Pune police to reassess their handling of such incidents. “Are the police deliberately ignoring some cases? Are they turning a blind eye to viral social media posts?” he questioned, calling for strict vigilance to safeguard Pune’s cultural and historical integrity.

After returning to Pune, Mohol met Jog at his residence. “After the brutal assault on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Devendra Jog, my wife and I went to meet him at his residence. After being in Gujarat and Delhi for three days, we headed straight to Devendra’s house upon arriving in Pune. We listened to Devendra and his family to understand the entire incident and tried to reassure them. Devendra sustained severe injuries in the attack, and the accused have already been arrested. I have also instructed Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to take the strictest possible action against those responsible.

Devendra is a talented computer engineer, known for his calm and soft-spoken nature. It is absolutely unacceptable that a young man like him, who never encroaches on anyone’s rights, was subjected to such violence. Today, it happened to Devendra; tomorrow, it could happen to any young individual. Therefore, I have directed the Police Commissioner to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future”, Mohol posted on social media.
