First Indian-American FBI Director Kash Patel Takes Oath on Bhagavad Gita

Washington, 21st February 2025: Kash Patel was sworn in as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Saturday, placing his hand on the Bhagavad Gita during the oath ceremony. The event was administered by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) on the White House campus.
Patel’s confirmation came after a narrow 51-49 Senate vote on Thursday, with Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska breaking ranks to oppose his appointment.
Patel Highlights His American Dream
Following the swearing-in, Patel addressed attendees, emphasizing his journey as a first-generation Indian-American. “I am living the American dream, and anyone who thinks the American dream is dead, look right here,” Patel stated. “You’re talking to a first-generation Indian who is about to lead the law enforcement agency of the greatest nation on earth. That can’t happen anywhere else.”
He also reaffirmed his commitment to accountability, stating, “I promise that there will be accountability within the FBI and outside of it.”
Trump Praises Patel’s Appointment
U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Patel’s leadership at the FBI, highlighting his strong support among Bureau agents. “One of the reasons I love Kash and wanted to put him in is because of the respect the agents had for him,” Trump said.
First Day as FBI Director
On his first official day in office, Patel paid his respects at the Wall of Honor, a memorial dedicated to FBI personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. His visit underscored his commitment to honoring their service and maintaining the Bureau’s tradition of justice and dedication.
