New Delhi, 08th February 2025: In a major political upset, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma has defeated former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly constituency. This high-profile contest saw a close battle between Kejriwal and Verma, with the lead changing multiple times throughout the counting process.
As per the latest reports, Verma has secured victory, marking a significant setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit also contested from the constituency but failed to make a significant impact.
Who is Parvesh Verma?
Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, comes from a well-established political background. His uncle Azad Singh served as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor and has been a BJP candidate in previous elections.
Born in 1977, Verma completed his education at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, followed by a Bachelor of Arts from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He later pursued an MBA from the Fore School of Management.
Political Journey
• Entered politics in 2013, winning from Mehrauli in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
• Elected as West Delhi MP in 2014, securing re-election in 2019 with a margin of 5.78 lakh votes.
• Served on the Standing Committee on Urban Development and the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament.
Campaign Against Kejriwal
Ahead of the 2025 Delhi Elections, Verma launched the “Remove Kejriwal, Save the Nation” campaign, criticising the AAP government’s performance on issues such as:

• Women’s safety
• Civic infrastructure
• Unfulfilled promise of cleaning the Yamuna River
