New Delhi, February 19, 2021: The continuous increase in petrol and diesel prices has increased the BJP’s concern in the upcoming elections. In the meeting of the party’s central functionaries on Sunday, electoral state leaders can propose this issue before the central leadership. The party leaders agree with the facts being given by the central government in this regard. Still, the message transpiring in public, the possibility of rising inflation, and the opposing parties’ effort to make it an issue remain intact.

Petrol-diesel prices have reached record levels before the five assemblies’ elections in April. According to sources, this issue may also come up for discussion in the party’s Sunday meeting. Particularly election-led states can separately draw the central leadership’s attention on this issue and may also seek relief.

Sources say that the BJP-ruled states may reduce some tax. This will also put pressure on other states and may improve the situation. Recently, the NDA government of Meghalaya has reduced the prices here. After corona’s impact on the economy, the central government can hardly relieve these prices. However, it can take some measures through the states. Recently, statements from higher levels in the government have also indicated this.

Price is fixed every day: Significantly, the oil companies fixed petrol and diesel prices under a particular process every day, but the common person sees this by connecting it with the central government. However, both the centre and states share the revenue generated from it. A prominent BJP leader said that the government was also trying on the international level. If OPEC countries increase production, global prices will be lower, and oil companies may also cut costs.
