Camp, 7th May 2026: A successful multi-organ donation and transplant operation carried out at the Command Hospital, Southern Command, has helped save three lives after the organs of a brain-dead Army soldier were donated following a road accident in Nashik earlier this month.

The 38-year-old infantry soldier had suffered critical injuries in an accident on May 3 and was later declared brain dead. Following consent from his family, doctors at the military hospital initiated the organ donation process under standard medical protocols on May 5.

Hospital authorities said the liver and one kidney were transported to the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in Delhi, while another kidney was transplanted at the Pune-based hospital. The organs benefitted two serving Army personnel undergoing treatment in Delhi and a dependent of a serving subedar admitted in Pune.

To ensure timely transport of the organs, authorities created a special green corridor and coordinated closely with multiple agencies. The Indian Air Force deployed an AN-32 aircraft to fly a medical team from Delhi to Pune for the retrieval and transfer procedure.

According to hospital officials, the visiting transplant team reached the hospital swiftly through the green corridor and returned to Delhi with the organs within the required time window during the early hours of Wednesday.

Doctors at the Command Hospital conducted the retrieval surgery with high levels of precision and coordination, officials from Southern Command said, praising the medical teams for their professionalism and adherence to transplant protocols.

The operation involved coordination between the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and civil administration authorities to facilitate seamless movement during the critical transplant process.

Command Hospital, Southern Command, one of the country’s major military healthcare institutions, has been actively carrying out organ transplant procedures in recent years. Officials said the hospital has already completed eight organ transplant-related procedures this year.
