Brawl Erupts During Diwali Pahat Event at Saras Bagh in Pune; Police Intervene Quickly
Swargate, 22nd October 2025: The traditional Diwali Padwa Pahat event at Saras Bagh in Pune, which has been celebrated for the past 28 years, was briefly disrupted after a fight broke out between two groups. Police said the scuffle began over a minor altercation and was resolved within minutes.
According to officials, four to five individuals allegedly abused and assaulted each other during the incident. The police team stationed nearby rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. No serious injuries or damage were reported.
Sources said tensions had been brewing in the lead-up to the event after several Hindutva organizations opposed its organization and issued threats on social media. The event’s organizers had initially announced its cancellation, citing security concerns. However, after the Pune Police assured full protection, the event was allowed to proceed as planned.
Despite the brief disturbance, the Diwali Pahat celebration resumed soon after the police intervention. The event, held annually at Saras Bagh to mark the auspicious occasion of Diwali Padwa, draws hundreds of Punekars every year for early morning cultural performances and prayers.
Police maintained a heavy presence at the venue throughout the morning to prevent further incidents.
