Delhi, 11th August 2023: In a significant move towards enhancing air travel convenience, the revolutionary Digi Yatra facility is set to debut at six additional airports this month. The esteemed airports of Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati are gearing up to introduce the innovative Digi Yatra service, aimed at streamlining passenger processing through cutting-edge Facial Recognition Technology (FRT).

Launched on December 1, 2022, by Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel Shri Jyotiraditya, Digi Yatra initially debuted at New Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports. Subsequently, the service was adopted by four more airports, namely Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, bringing the total number of Digi Yatra-enabled airports to seven. With the imminent inclusion of the six aforementioned airports, the grand tally of airports utilizing Digi Yatra will swell to an impressive thirteen.

As of August 10, 2023, an impressive 3,460,454 passengers have embraced the Digi Yatra experience, benefitting from its seamless and secure paperless processing mechanism. Furthermore, the Digi Yatra mobile application has garnered a dedicated user base of 1.29 million individuals by the same date.

Digi Yatra functions by harnessing the power of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), thereby enabling passengers to navigate airport checkpoints effortlessly, all while ensuring a contactless and secure experience. Notably, the system operates without central storage of passengers’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data. Instead, data is encrypted and stored securely within passengers’ smartphones, ensuring the utmost privacy. This data is exclusively shared between the passenger and the airport of origin, where the Digi Yatra ID is verified. Impressively, all data is automatically removed from the airport’s system within 24 hours of the passenger’s flight departure, with data sharing occurring solely when the passenger travels and only with the originating airport.
