New Delhi, 25th December 2023: Former President of the Indian Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, broke his silence on the discussions surrounding his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah. Singh, who has retired from both wrestling and wrestling-related politics, clarified that the meeting with Amit Shah did not involve discussions on wrestling matters.

During the meeting, Singh asserted that he has moved on from wrestling and politics related to the sport. He emphasized that the wrestling issue lies between the government and the elected federation, and he no longer has any involvement in it. Singh stated, “Sanjay Singh should do his work; I am doing my work.”

The controversy stems from the Sports Ministry’s decision to suspend the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and put all decisions of the newly elected WFI President, Sanjay Singh, on hold. Sanjay Singh had been assigned the responsibility of organizing Under-15 and Under-20 national competitions in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP). However, questions and concerns arose about his presidency, leading to his suspension.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh addressed the matter, alleging political interference from the beginning. He highlighted the friendship between him and Sanjay Singh, downplaying the discussion around their different castes. Singh attributed the controversy to political motives involving Congress and certain groups.

Singh clarified the choice of Nandini Nagar as the competition venue, stating that it was due to the lack of time for preparations elsewhere. He reiterated his retirement from wrestling, reflecting on his 12-year contribution to the sport and acknowledging that the evaluation of his impact is subjective.
