Britain’s PM Boris Johnson’s Visit to India Cancelled; Was Scheduled to be Part of Republic Day Celebrations

London, January 5, 2021: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was invited as chief guest on the occasion of Republic Day (26 January) in the country. Boris Johnson spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone prior to cancelling his trip to India. He expressed his regret for being unable to attend the Republic Day celebrations. Boris Johnson made the decision due to Corona’s new strain and the lockdown imposed in Britain.

A spokesperson for Downing Street said that the Prime Minister spoke to PM Modi this morning, regretting that he would be unable to visit India later this month. Additionally, the spokesperson said that Johnson believes it is more important for him to stay in Britain so that he can focus on the coronavirus spread in the country.

Coronavirus Spreads in Britain Once Again

An excessive number of cases of corona are being discovered in Britain currently. The new strain of coronavirus was first found in Britain post which the government gave strict instructions to deal with it seriously by imposing another lockdown. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a new national lockdown has been put in place to deal with corona at least until mid-February to prevent new strains. On one hand, the work of introducing the Corona vaccine has been started in the UK, and on the other hand, a lockdown has been announced.
