C-DAC, IAMAI to organize Universal Acceptance Workshop for Devanagari script in Pune

Pune, September 6th, 2019: As part of its ongoing campaign to make local Indian scripts easily accessible on the internet, the Internet and Mobile Association of India [IAMAI] is holding the next workshop on Universal Acceptance [UA] for Devanagari script in Pune on 6 th September ’19 at C-DAC Innovation Park, Pashan, Pune. The campaign is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology [MeitY].

C-DAC has been doing the pioneering work in the area of multilingual computing since last 30 years which paved the way for Indian language computing on the Digital platforms. C-DAC was instrumental in enablement of Internationalized Domain Names in Indian languages which resulted in the operationalization of the & domain names. As a next logical corollary, C-DAC is working towards sensitizing the software developing community for developing applications which are receptive towards multilingual interactions. This multilingual interaction is the foundation of Universal Acceptance.

Universal Acceptance is a foundational requirement for a multilingual Internet, one in which users around the world can navigate entirely in local languages. Accessibility of Local Indian language content over the internet will boost e-commerce and local businesses resulting in greater internet penetration and usage in the country.

The objective of the workshops is to reach out to the Internet businesses, developers and startup community to create awareness about the criticality of Universal Acceptance and the technical solutions being developed and also to promote Indian languages over the Internet. The workshop will also have a seminar, a tutorial on Universal Acceptance coding tools, followed by a coding challenge in which local developers can compete.

IAMAI expressed that the responses from local developers, start-up and student community have been very amazing, and the association looks forward to a good participation by startups, developers, coders and other stakeholders in the upcoming workshops as well.

The workshop in Pune, to be held on 6 th September is co-hosted by CDAC Gist, eChai, GDG Pune, and Headstart. This is the 5 th workshop in the series-so far the workshops have been conducted in Raipur [36inc] Bhopal [BNest] Jaipur [JECRC University] Lucknow [NIELIT]. The Internet and Mobile Association of India [IAMAI] is a young and vibrant association with ambitions of representing the entire gamut of digital businesses in India.
