Cabbage, Drumsticks, and Garlic Prices Drop Due to Increased Supply; Watermelon, Melon, Papaya, and Lemon Become Costlier
Pune, 3rd March 2025: Prices of garlic, cauliflower, cabbage, and drumsticks have declined by 10 to 15 percent due to increased arrivals at the wholesale market. According to traders, the prices of most other fruits and vegetables have remained stable.
Vilas Bhujbal, a senior official at the Pune Market Yard, said, “On Sunday, 90 trucks carrying fruits and vegetables arrived at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard from various parts of Maharashtra and other states. This included 7 to 8 tempos of green chilies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh; 3 to 4 tempos of cabbage from Karnataka and Gujarat; 5 to 6 tempos of shallots from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; 7 to 8 tempos of carrots from Rajasthan; 8 to 10 trucks of peas; and 10 to 12 tempos of garlic from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.”
Traders reported that the prices of leafy vegetables such as fenugreek, coriander, onion, radish, and spinach have increased, while the prices of other leafy greens remain stable. In the vegetable section, 90,000 pairs of coriander and 50,000 pairs of fenugreek arrived in the market.
As temperatures rise, demand for watermelon, melon, papaya, and lemon has surged. Consequently, prices have increased by ₹2 to ₹5 per kg for these fruits, while lemon prices have risen by ₹200 per 15 to 20 kg sack. Meanwhile, the prices of pineapple, orange, grapefruit, pomegranate, and chickpeas have remained stable.
