Cabinet Approves Rs 9,565 Crore Pune-Shirur Elevated Route, Connecting to Samruddhi Highway
Pune, 9th September 2024: The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, also known as the Samruddhi Highway, will be connected to Pune. A proposed 53-km six-tier flyover (elevated road) between Pune and Shirur will link to the Samruddhi Highway via Ahmednagar and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This decision was made in a recent cabinet meeting. The elevated route will start from Kesnand village near Pune, with an estimated cost of ₹7,515 crore.
The new six-tier elevated route will run parallel to the existing Pune Ahmednagar Highway. It has now been decided to connect this proposed flyover to the Samruddhi Highway via Ahmednagar and further through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which will require an additional ₹2,050 crore, bringing the total cost to ₹9,565 crore. The highway will span 250 km in total.
The revised route for the Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar highway was proposed by the Public Works Department (PWD) and approved in the cabinet meeting, clearing the way for improvements to the Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar National Highway. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Previously, the highway was to be constructed through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and had received approval. However, in April, the project was transferred to the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) as per an agreement between NHAI and MSIDC. As a result, the project is now being handled by MSIDC.
