Case Filed Against Traffic Warden and Assistant PSI for Bribe Demand in Pune
Pune, 7th November 2024: A case has been registered against a traffic warden and an Assistant Police Sub Inspector (PSI) for demanding a bribe in Pune. The two officials allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 in exchange for removing a parking jammer placed on a car that was parked in a no-parking zone. The car owner, upon being asked for the bribe, reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The ACB has filed a case against the accused at Samarth Police Station.
The complainant, a 37-year-old man, reported the incident to the ACB in Pune, which was then forwarded to Samarth Police Station. A case has been registered against Traffic Warden Aanis Kasam Aaga (48, resident of Kondhwa) and Assistant PSI Kiran Dattatraya Rote (51), both assigned to the Samarth Traffic Division under the Pune City Police Commissionerate’s Traffic Branch. The charges include relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Administration) Dayanand Gawade, the complainant had parked his car in a no-parking zone, prompting Traffic Warden Aaga to place a jammer on his vehicle. When the complainant approached Aaga to resolve the issue, the warden allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 to release the car but later agreed to accept Rs 700 as a compromise. Subsequently, when the complainant visited the Samarth Traffic Division, Assistant PSI Rote allegedly instructed him to pay the bribe demanded by Aaga.
The complainant reported this incident to the ACB Pune. Following an investigation by DSP Bharati More, a case was filed at Samarth Police Station. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Shirish Deshpande and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve.
