Pune, August 29, 2020: After demonetisation, almost every citizen has started using online payment apps including Google Pay app on their mobiles. However, some banks have now started charging for this service, and citizens will have to pay for certain transactions.

Until now, no rupee was charged for the use of Google Pay. But now some private banks, including Axis Bank, have started charging for Google Pay after 20 transactions per month, for transactions ranging from Rs 3 to Rs 10. As a result, many customers will now have to pay extra to use Google Pay. Banks have set a limit of 20 transactions per month, and these transactions are completed in four to five days. For the remaining days, additional charges will be levied on the transactions that take place.

Citizens have lamented that Google Pay and banks have not given customers any notice in this regard. As a result, citizens have decided to discontinue Google Pay saying they have no choice but to turn to other options that offer the same services free of cost.

Currently, Google Pay is used widely by people. Even small transactions are done using Google Pay. Citizens have become accustomed to paying online. However, the sudden imposition of charges on transactions without any notice is a form of ‘fraud’ and citizens have accused the bank and Google Pay of trying to swindle crores of rupees from millions of citizens.

Here are the options for Google Pay:

Citizens are starting to look for other options for cashless payments. There are the options of using the PhonePe and Bhim app of the Central Government. This app is as safe and convenient to use as Google Pay.

“Google Pay has made it a habit for citizens to keep transactions free. And now the banks have started charging for transactions. Although the number of banks currently charging is low, all citizens will be affected in the long run. The decision, made by Google Pay or the banks without any prior notice, is a form of fraud. This will cost the citizens Rs 200 to Rs 300 per month,” said Kuldip Jadhav, an engineer.
