CBI TAKES OVER INVESTIGATION OF THREE SEPARATE CASES EARLIER REGISTERED BY MAHARASHTRA POLICE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered three separate cases and took over the investigation of these cases on the request of Maharashtra Government and further notification from Government of India.

The first case was earlier registered vide FIR No. 92/99 dated 8.4.1999 U/s 387 of IPC at Police Station Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai (Maharashtra) against unknown persons. It was alleged in the complaint that during the period from 2.3.1999 to 8.4.1999, the unknown accused persons identifying themselves as Rohit, John, Ashok, etc. of Chhota Rajan gang made telephonic calls to complainant and threatened him with dire consequences to extort money to the tune of Rs. 25 lakh (approx.). In this case, provisions of MCOC Act, 1999 were subsequently applied by the local police.

The second case was earlier registered vide of FIR No. 220/1998 dated 7.10.1998 U/s 302, 307, 34 of IPC & Section 3, 25 of Arms Act at Police Station Tilak Nagar, Mumbai against two unknown persons. It was alleged that on 7.10.1998 at 1700 hrs, when deceased Bala Kotiyan along with his friend was sitting at Navgrah Hotel, two unknown persons holding revolver and pistol entered the hotel & opened fire at Bala Kotiyan resulting into his death and injuring his friend.

The third case was earlier registered vide CR No. 166/2004 at Police Station Navgarh, Mumbai on 16.11.2004 U/s 506(ii),427,452, 387, 34 of IPC & Section 3/25 of Indian Arms Act on the complaint against three unknown persons. It was alleged that on 31.07.2004 accused persons with common intention forcibly entered in the office of complainant at Mulund (E), Mumbai posing themselves as the gang members of Chota Rajan and assaulted complainant & his servant and demanded money on gun point. The accused also damaged mobile phone/remote of the complainant. In this case, provisions of MCOC Act, 1999 were subsequently applied by State police.

Further investigation in these cases is continuing.
