Central Railway Collects Rs 100 Crore Fine for Ticketless Travel in 5 Months; 1.89 Lakh Cases in Pune
Pune, 10th September 2025: Central Railway has intensified its drive against unauthorised and ticketless travel, leading to the detection of 17.19 lakh passengers travelling without valid tickets between April and August 2025. A penalty amount of ₹100.50 crore was realised during this five-month period.
In Pune division alone, 1.89 lakh cases of ticketless travel were detected, resulting in penalty collection of ₹10.41 crore.
For the month of August 2025, Central Railway apprehended 2.76 lakh passengers travelling without valid tickets, up from 2.34 lakh in August 2024, reflecting an 18 percent increase. The penalty collected in August 2025 stood at ₹13.78 crore compared to ₹8.85 crore in August 2024, marking a rise of more than 55 percent.
Division-wise penalty and case details for April to August 2025 are as follows:
Bhusaval division: ₹36.93 crore from 4.34 lakh cases
Mumbai division: ₹29.17 crore from 7.03 lakh cases
Nagpur division: ₹11.44 crore from 1.85 lakh cases
Pune division: ₹10.41 crore from 1.89 lakh cases
Solapur division: ₹5.01 crore from 1.04 lakh cases
Headquarters: ₹7.54 crore from 1.04 lakh cases
Central Railway has been conducting station checks, ambush checks, fortress checks, and mega ticket checking drives across Mail/Express, Passenger, Special, and Suburban trains in its network.
To address misuse of the ticketing system, Central Railway has also discontinued booking of tickets through Static QR codes in the UTS mobile app after reports of widespread irregularities.
