Central Railway General Manager Vijay Kumar Passes Away Due to Cardiac Arrest

Mumbai, 11th November 2025: Central Railway General Manager Vijay Kumar passed away in his sleep last night (November 10) due to a cardiac arrest, according to railway officials. Detailed information regarding the incident is awaited.
Vijay Kumar had assumed charge as the General Manager of Central Railway on October 1, 2025, succeeding Dharam Veer Meena, who superannuated on September 30, 2025.
An officer of the 1988 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Kumar had earlier served as the General Manager of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW). Under his leadership, CLW achieved its highest-ever production of 700 locomotives during the financial year 2024–25.
For the financial year 2025–26, CLW was given a target of 777 locomotives, of which 417 were dispatched in the first six months.
During his career spanning over 35 years, Vijay Kumar held several key positions across Indian Railways, including roles in North Western Railway, Northern Railway, the Railway Board, and the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). He also contributed to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) as Executive Director and Director of Rolling Stock.
Kumar was a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He had undergone advanced management and technology training in Singapore, Malaysia, New Delhi, and Hyderabad, and represented Indian Railways in more than 20 countries.
He was a recipient of multiple awards, including the Minister of Railways Award in 1995, 1999, and 2011, as well as the Member Mechanical, Railway Board Award in 1992, and a commendation from the Director General of RDSO in 2006.
