CENTRAL RAILWAY TAKES ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS MAKING RAILWAYS ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY – IMPLEMENTS BAN ON PLASTIC AND THERMOCOL ITEMS.

Central Railway has taken concrete steps to implement the State Government’s ban on plastic and thermocol items on catering vending outlets and other stalls at all stations and premises in accordance with the Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Products Notification 2018 issued by the Government of Maharashtra. This ban will come into effect from 23.06.2018.

As per this notification ban is in the whole State of Maharashtra for manufacture, usage, transport, distribution, wholesale & retail sale and storage, import of the plastic bags with handle and without handle, and the disposable products manufactured from plastic & thermocol (polystyrene) such as single use disposable dish, cups, plates, glasses, fork, bowl, container, disposable dish/ bowl used for packaging food in hotels, spoon, straw, non-woven polypropylene bags, cups/ pouches to store liquid, packaging with plastic to wrap or store the products, packaging of food items and food grain material etc.The plastic packaging material for certain categories such as medicines etc are exempted from this ban in accordance with the State Government’s notification.

Catering / Vending Licencees over Mumbai Division have been informed and instructions regarding the same have been issued. Use of plastic material / banned items in any form for serving/packing will not be allowed with effect from 23.6.2018

IRCTC also plans to install plastic bottle crushers at some stations to dispose off plastic bottles, paper cups, plates and other disposable items.

Central Railway appeals to its passengers to extend their co-operation in effective implementation of this ban and take positive steps towards making Railways environment-friendly .
