CGST Pune Superintendents Protest Against Unjust Transfer Policy
Pune, 17th April 2023: Superintendents and Group B officers of CGST Pune are up in arms over a new transfer policy that has been issued by the Cadre Control Unit of the administration. The policy mandates long and repeated transfers out of Pune, putting a heavy financial burden on officers and disturbing their family and social lives.
The officers feel that the new policy is unnecessary and unjust, as there is already a policy in place that could serve the same purpose, with minor tweaking. They say that this kind of transfer policy has never been in force in Pune, and administrations in other zones always consider staff welfare while framing transfer policies.
According to the officers, the ostensible reason being given by the administration is that a couple of superintendents were trapped by the CBI for corruption in the last one year. However, the superintendents are unanimous in supporting the administration in all cases of corruption. They feel that corruption exists in all cadres, and it is the Group A officers or the IRS cadre who indulge in all sorts of corruption, including misuse of official vehicles for personal use and occupying office spaces much beyond their official allowance.
The Group A officers have themselves spent 15-20 years in a station, and are now targeting the Group B cadre of superintendents by implementing a policy that involves transfers from stations every 3 years.
The officers have approached the CBIC chairman for redressal of their grievances. They are hopeful that their concerns will be addressed, and that a more reasonable transfer policy will be put in place.
