Chhaava is a riveting historical action drama that brings to life the valor of Maratha warrior king Sambhaji Maharaj.

Vicky Kaushal as the king of the Maratha Empire Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is already giving goosebumps to the audience with the dialogue delivery in the trailer, with co-cast Rashmika Mandanna in the role of his wife Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar, the story revolves around Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the greatest and most courageous warrior of the Maratha empire who rebelled against the Mughals following the legacy of his father and the right hand of ‘Swarajya,’ Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The immense support from the audience and viewers led to massive excitement for the release date. As soon as the release date was announced to be 14th of February, it became the Valentine’s Day plan, creating a record breaking bookings of more than 13 crore in advance, the highest of 2025. It has accumulated approximately Rs 13.78 crore through pre-booked ticket sales. The film has sold over 4.87 lakh tickets.

The prediction for the film experts’ Day – 1 Box Office Collection is said to be 23-26 crores. Vicky Kaushal expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to play the role of Maharashtra’s lion. He said in a promotional event “Mere liye mera saubhagya hai ki mujhe Chhatrapati Maharaj ka role nibhaane ka mauka mila. I am very grateful to Laxman Utekar and Dinesh Vijay Sir for choosing me for this role. Hamari ek hi koshish hai ki Maharashtra mein to sabko pata hai,
bacche-bacchon ko pata hai. Par poori duniya mein, ghar-ghar mein bacche-bacche ko pata lagna chahiye ki humare raje kaise the”.

Based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel, Chhaava (Lion’s cub) aims to acknowledge the bravery of Shambhu Raje (Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal), which most history books haven’t been able to. There’s more to him than being Shivaji’s son, who was betrayed by his men, captured, and brutally executed by Aurangzeb (played by Akshaye Khanna).

Chaava is called the best Valentine’s Day plan to visit the cinemas, which is nothing less than a powerful combination of action, drama, history, emotions, royalty, and pride. Right after the trailer launch, action drama is counted among the most-anticipated films of the year, and moviegoers have been eagerly awaiting its theatrical release.
