Pune, 8th July 2025: Hundreds of members from the Christian community, along with representatives of various social and political organizations, gathered outside the Pune Collector Office to strongly protest against controversial remarks made by BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar. The protest created a charged atmosphere in the city and drew sharp reactions from several leaders.

The demonstrators condemned Padalkar’s statement, which they said was deeply offensive to the Christian community. They demanded an immediate apology and urged the administration to take legal action against him for spreading communal hatred.

Among the prominent voices at the protest was Haji Zubair Memon, President of the Maharashtra Muslim Conference, who delivered a powerful address during the demonstration.

“We will oppose such hateful and poisonous language against any religion or community on every possible platform,” Memon declared. “This isn’t just an insult to the Christian community — it’s an attack on the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb that defines our nation’s unity. We will not remain silent in the face of such divisive mentality.”

Memon further demanded that strict legal action be taken against Padalkar and anyone promoting hate speech that disturbs communal harmony in society.

Despite the strong emotions expressed during the protest, the demonstration remained peaceful. However, the bold stance taken by the Christian community and supporting groups has sparked political ripples across Maharashtra, with several leaders now reacting to the incident.

Leaders from different communities and political parties have called for accountability and have expressed concern about rising communal rhetoric in public discourse.
