Pune: MLA Pathare Demands Rehabilitation of Flood-Prone Houses in Vadgaonsheri Constituency
Mumbai, 8th July 2025: The issue of recurring floods in Yerawada, Vishrantwadi, and Kalas areas of Vadgaonsheri constituency has persisted for the past 35–40 years. Raising this long-standing concern during the monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, NCP’s Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare called on the state government to provide a permanent solution.
Speaking in the House, MLA Pathare stated, “Every year during monsoons, rainwater enters homes in these areas. Around 650 houses remain under constant threat of flooding, severely affecting the daily lives of residents. It is imperative to rehabilitate these families to safer locations.”
Responding to the issue, Industries Minister Uday Samant informed that the state government has approved Rs 250 crore for the development of basic infrastructure in Vadgaonsheri constituency, including flood mitigation measures. Of this, Rs 70 crore has already been released two days ago. He assured the House that the government is positive about the rehabilitation plan and a decision will be taken soon.
Additionally, MLA Pathare raised a pointed question in the Assembly regarding Survey Numbers 53 and 54 in Kharadi, which have been reserved as an exhibition ground. “Despite Pune Municipal Corporation holding ownership of this land for over a decade, and its name being on the 7/12 extract, how was it transferred to a private entrepreneur?” he asked. “If land reserved for public use can be handed over to an industrialist, will ordinary farmers also be given exemption from such reservations?” he questioned. Minister Samant responded by assuring a thorough investigation into the matter.
