Pune, December 23, 2020: In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of a second wave, as a precautionary measure, the Pune Rural Police is planning to extend the night curfew under their jurisdiction. With Christmas and New Year around the corner, Lonavala and other hotspots will be kept under special watch. This move is aimed to prevent the citizens from rushing to these party hotspots for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

According to Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, this move is under consideration as the Pune District Collector has the power to extend the curfew to the rural areas around the district.

With the night curfew being imposed in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, citizens have already made plans to move out to the city limits to plan parties and celebrations. Many farmhouses, bungalows, hotels and resorts have been booked for parties by people from Pune and Mumbai and many other places are flooding with enquiries.

Maharashtra state government, in view of the new strain of COVID-19 found in the UK, issued new directives on Monday and ordered night curfew in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The night curfew has started from Tuesday night (December 22) and will be applicable till January 6. Only the movement of essential and exempted categories will be permissible under the municipal corporation limits.
